Buying a High Definition Television

The introduction of digital broadcasts has seen the explosion of high definition televisions. So what are the factors that should be considered before investing in a HD TV?

Room size might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but a super-sized TV could very easily look out of place in a small room. Another thing is to consider the positioning of the TV and the viewer. Make sure the TV set will fit into the intended space and if the viewer is too close to the screen a larger set can lead to an uncomfortable viewing experience.

You must consider what applications you require the television for – satellite TV, DVDs, BluRay, games consoles? For example the TV broadcasts that are available to you will probably by in 720p or 1080i formats which means that for this purpose alone a Full HD TV (1080p) set might be an unnecessary and underutilized expense. However if you intend using a 1080p games console or BluRay DVD player then 1080p capability might be essential to enjoy the viewing experience to the max.

Other things to consider is do you have a suitable TV tuner and cables, if not you might be best buying a TV with an integrated tuner and additional cables. Do you already have a suitable surround sound system or is this something that you need?

Just taking time out to make a few well informed choices before purchasing a new TV might be the best thing you will ever do to make the most out of your high definition TV experience.
